Access summary Extremely limited access for wheelchair users. Some services or facilites for sensory impaired people. There are 10 steps down into the museum, a further 2 up and 2 down once inside, and then 10 steps back up to street level at the exit. Staff are happy to assist wheelchairs down the steps, however this presents quite a serious hazard in case of a fire. There are plans for renovations in early 2007 and we have been assured that access will be a key priority.

Further Entrance Notes The entrance is open, and there are 10 steps down to the box office, where entry is obstructed by a narrow turnstyle. However this can be opened to let wheelchairs pass. Staff are happy to carry wheelchair users down the steps, however this is not recommended as the floor is very uneven, there are a further 4 steps inside, and another 10 to exit. There is also quite a serious hazard in the case of a fire. Staff offer all disabled customers who decide not to visit a booklet entitled 'A Short History of The Clink Prison'.

Access Inside

Venue has unavoidable steps Yes
Number of steps between each floor There are 10 steps into the museum, and 10 steps out. There are a further 2 steps up and 2 down on the walk round the museum.
Are there any handrails? Two side
Location of accessible fire exits and refuges There is the entrance, exit and one more around the tour. However all of these fire exits have a substantial amount of stairs before reaching street level. We believe this presents a high risk for wheelchair users in case of a fire.
