Message from Artsline's President
Artsline reaches its 25th year and - as a founder way back in 1981 - I am delighted that the Charity is continuing to reach disabled people and their families, providing them with the information and activities they need to access and enjoy the arts, whether it is taking part, attending the theatre or visiting the cinema.
We launched our new, exciting and state of the art access database in April, which currently has over 50,000 unique visitors every month; we have been funded by the Cinema Exhibitors Association to produce an access guide to all cinemas in the United Kingdom and Eire this year; we are working closely in partnership with the London Civic Forum and several other voluntary organisations on access issues in respect of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we have appointed a new Chief Executive Officer, Alan Kerr. Attitude is Everything which we founded some years ago is now a great success and in due course will become an organisation in its own right.
We are seeking currently funding for many new projects, as well as for the employment of a Youth Project Officer and another Access Worker.
Our Trustees, who have much expertise in the arts and entertainments world, are doing an excellent job. We have a new Chair, Roger Robinson, who was our Chief Executive Officer until his retirement four years ago. Maureen Robinson is our hard working and valued Administrator. She has recruited many new volunteers to work on marketing and publicity, and an experienced new volunteer to undertake fundraising.
The Business Plan covering the next three years will continue the work and expertise of Artsline. There is a happy and optimistic attitude in our offices, and we look forward to the next 25 years of success and achievement.
Finally, may I thank my co-founders of Artsline, including Joan Bakewell, the late Peter Barkworth, Nicky Gavron and Ann Darnborough, the Trustees, staff and volunteers and the funders whose support has enabled Artsline to provide valued services to disabled people for a quarter of century.
