Our New Pilot Youth Project
A taster course for young men and women into the Film Industry
We are organising this year, our 25th anniversary year, in partnership with the London Disability Arts Forum a new and exciting project- a pilot project where we will be organising workshops over a year in all aspects of film making and film techniques - to empower and increase the self-confidence and learning opportunities of young disabled people in London by offering a course in all disciplines of film-making including screen writing, story boarding, camera work, sound engineering, editing, direction and production. Disability is the experience of barriers and thus in this spirit and following the lead of Attitude is Everything’s highly successful project, we are launching our film making training project.
Thus, with potentially identified funding we will appoint a Youth Arts Project Co-ordinator to determine the strategic approach to establishing this course. Initially there will be pilot workshops in the late summer or early autumn in camera technique, editing, directing, production, make up techniques and other aspects of the film industry with trainers with those skills to make available their knowledge and expertise.
We are discussing with HE/FE colleges the possibility of this course, if the pilot course merits it, becoming, in future years, an integral unit within a diploma course in film making offered by the educational system.
We are most fortunate that we have been generously assisted by Camden Council’s own Film Unit and Officer who are finding venues for the workshops including studios and locations for exterior film making and use of the relevant film making equipment.
This is an exciting project and we are delighted with working in close partnership with LDAF and the Camden Film Officer and Unit. As we approach our 26th year this is only one of the new projects we will be offering to all disabled people in the United Kingdom.
