Hello. I am a musician that plays bass and guitar
with limited drumming skills and keyboard skills as well. I am looking for other musicians to form a band of disabled musicians who also involve themselves in projects. The band will be playing a functions type set with a wide mixture of music styles-jazz, reggae, rock, soul,pop...I need a singer, bass/guitar player,
keyboard player, drummer, trumpet player and sax player. The aim of the band and project is to ourteach difficult to reach audiences so that they can enjoy some live music. For example, many recovering alcoholics find it hard to enjoy a music night out as almost all venues sell alcohol. As well nearly all music gigs are at night and the elderly and others such as previous victims of crime can find it hard to go out at night. Providing
other band/project members agree we will access audience through linking with day centres and groups such as victim support. I live in Haringey and there is a specific community centre for disabled people and this would seem an ideal venue. I want to mainly keep actual gigs within the local areas of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey in line with the local health trust. The band & project would of course also be DJs at events and invite other bands to play especially those from other music projects that work in disabilities and artists that have disabled band members. We ought also to provide a free service for disabled people who get married and for disabled people who want to have a party.
I also want to recruit a non-disabled band member who has experience and qualifications in care and who can drive and operate a PA system as well as act as our manager.
Band members will also expect to do some teaching in the local community and have the idea for a recording project whereby once a year we can record and perform songs from and about the local community. I will be applying for funding from this from another of organisations-Barnet, Enfield & Haringey health trust, Unison, European Social Fund, Victim Support, Arts Board, Musicians Union.
The funds will go on salaries for band members, the manager, venue hire, gear and transport.
I understand that it might be difficult to get salary funding at decent levels so it is quite possible we would have to learn another music set as and do a gig for our own profit once a week. As a musician you would need some experience in playing the different styles contact me if you are interested-The Scribbler 07506 445 109
