Description SIGNS OF A STAR SHAPED DIVA

By Nona Shepphard

Directed by Jenny Sealey and Nona Shepphard

Starring Caroline Parker

***Press Night: 29 January at 7.30pm***

Graeae presents a unique one woman show, SIGNS OF A STAR SHAPED DIVA, at Theatre Royal Stratford East from 27 January – 6 February 2010 and then touring until the end of May 2010. The press night at Theatre Royal Stratford East is on 29 January at 7.30 pm. The play stars Caroline Parker in the dual role of mousy Sue Graves, who runs a funeral parlour, and Tammy Frascati, the famous international chanteuse who signs the songs of the stars in venues from the UK to Sydney to Las Vegas. Jenny Sealey and Nona Shepphard direct the play. The production is in association with Theatre Royal Stratford East.

No one remembers mousy old Sue, the undertaker from Bingley Bridge. No one knows she is a Diva fanatic, until the day she is offered a cabaret spot at Harry’s Place. Overnight, Tammy Frascati is born and Sue finds herself hurtling to stardom and Las Vegas, signing the songs of her favourite Divas, Billie Holiday, Dusty Springfield, Ella Fitzgerald and Gloria Gaynor.

But as success beckons Tammy, a handsome stranger pierces Sue’s heart. What can she do, can she have both?

Caroline Parker gives a virtuoso performance as Sue and her alter ego Tammy as she takes us on a journey of fame, frocks and false eyelashes battling with the true love from Bingley Bridge.

CAROLINE PARKER has a long association with Graeae. She has toured extensively with Neti Neti, Theatre Centre, Deafinitely Theatre and Fittings Media Arts. She played Sue Lee in the fourth series of BBC See Hear’s drama Switch, and more recently was seen playing a lip reading expert, Florence, on BBC’s undercover detective drama series Murphy’s Law. As “The Silent Diva” Caroline makes music and songs accessible to deaf people and sign language accessible to hearing people.
