‘Sweet Thames! Run Softly, till I End My Song’ - Edmund Spenser

Chelsea Mornings, Waterloo Sunsets and Rainy Nights in Soho. The life and times of the capital have been immortalized in song by many a musician. From the bustle of the music halls to the riot of the punks, from London to LDN, the tradition is rich, a city celebrated, commiserated and eulogized through song. Co-curated by songwriter Chris Difford of Squeeze, Songs in the Key of London brings together singers and songsmiths of the old school and new, in a celebration of songs about the city. One of the giants of post-Beatles songwriting in the UK, Difford is still best-known for his extraordinarily fruitful collaborations with Glenn Tilbrook for the group Squeeze in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Born in 1954, Difford is a singer, songwriter and record producer who contributed some of the most unforgettable pop lyrics of the last three decades, including Another Nail In My Heart, Labelled With Love, Pulling Mussels (From the Shell) and Up the Junction. Difford has also written lyrics for music by Jools Holland, Elton John and others, while releasing three solo albums.
