| Description | Chantal Akerman / Anya Gallaccio 11 July – 14 September 2008, Admission Free Camden Arts Centre is proud to present exhibitions by international film maker Chantal Akerman and sculptor Anya Gallaccio. Both artists make works which are imbued with a sense of time passing. Showing over the summer months, Akerman’s exhibition brings together two video installations and one film, each made at different points in her career. At the same time Gallaccio displaces nature in her newly commissioned installation. Chantal Akerman is internationally renowned as both artist and film director. In the late 1960’s, profoundly influenced by Jean-Luc Godard, Akerman enrolled at film school. Her films are closely related to feminism, sexuality and her family. British sculptor Anya Gallaccio’s spectacular new installation connects Camden Arts Centre’s garden to the galleries, bringing the outdoors inside. She uses natural materials, exploring ideas of time, beauty and decay. Get different insights about the show by joining our informal talks and screenings. Michael Archer, Head of Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art. Catch the special talk with Robert Fenz, artist and cinematographer to Chantal Akerman and Leo Waddada Smith as they discuss improvisation in film making and music. Why not bring friends and family to our special Spiral 08 Festival on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August. Led by Artist Renza Ben Gajra, Ryan McCelland and Orly Orbach. Come and create your own film, prints and performance. Strange and wonderful mix of workshops, film animation and performance with activities and events throughout the building and garden. Make the most of sunny evenings in Camden Arts Centre’s leafy garden with gourmet barbecues every Wednesday. Collect a BBQ flyer when you visit the centre, and enjoy a free class of Pimms. Choose from homemade burgers and Chicago hotdogs, plus great vegetarian and good value children options. There are two entrances into the building: one with level access, one with steps and a hand rail. Assistance Dogs and Hearing Dogs for the deaf are welcome. Parking for disabled visitors only is available, call in advance to reserve a space. A wheelchair is available free of charge, there is seating around the building and a lift provides access to the exhibition floor.
