| Description | Over 3,700 objects from the Horniman's fascinating handling collection are available for the first time on a permanent basis in a new dynamic and interactive hands-on centre, the Hands On Base. The Hands On Base presents a unique opportunity to touch and study closely objects from around the world out of museum cases. A programme of sessions run by museum staff provide an intimate insight into the many environments and cultures represented by the Museum's varied collections. The wide selection of objects is similar to those in the galleries including musical instruments, masks, puppets, natural history specimens and clothing from all over the world, and with only a few exceptions, 'real' objects are used not reproductions. There are examples from the past, and from the present, making it relevant to people of all ages who can connect the objects with experiences in their own lives. Permanent exhibition |
